Background of Organisation

Some of the finest historic parks and gardens in Britain can be found in Wales. The Welsh Historic Gardens Trust was founded at a time when the outlook for these gardens was bleak: indifference, insensitive planning and financial insecurity combined to bring about the destruction of many that might have been saved.

Organisational Objectives

The main objectives of the Trust are:

• To encourage appreciation and understanding of the garden and landscape heritage of Wales
• To develop a strategy for the restoration and conservation of threatened sites
• To assist that work wherever possible through practical help and expert advice
• To safeguard the future of sites whose continuance cannot otherwise be guaranteed
