who is the audience?
"Everything is 100% audience related". Sam Ham
It is easy to forget that the most effective interpretation is designed with a specific audience in mind. A slide talk about the Estuary to a school group for example, is very specific, and will require some knowledge of the education stage of the children to target it correctly. A panel in a beach car park, however will potentially be seen by everyone who looks at it. However in this situation, a further question can be asked-
Who is the main audience, or who is the audience you are most interested in contacting with this interpretation? If the site is a busy tourist site- then the visitors may be predominately families.
Thinking about the main audience can help the effectiveness of the interpretation. For example, Is it for predomnantly local people, or tourists? Are the visitors walkers, fishermen, or sailors?
