Background of Organisation

The BRERC, also referred to as the Local Records Centre (LRC), has served as the central repository for ecological date within 'Avon' since 1974. It is a non-profit organisation administered through Bristol City Museum and Art Gallery on behalf of Bristol, North Somerset, South Gloucestershire and Bath & North East Somerset Councils, English Nature, Avon Wildlife Trust and the Environment Agency.

Several Million records of species, habitats and sites with nearly a million of them in electronic form including GIS are held at the Centre.

Organisational Objectives

The Centre aim to collect, collate, manage and disseminate environmental data for the 'Avon' area.

Relevant Policies, Projects & Activities

BRERC is a member of the 'South West Biodiversity Partnership', the 'Avon Biodiversity Partnership', all Local Biodiversity Action Plans (BAPs), North Somerset Levels and Moors Project, various local community groups. It is also the co-ordinator of several specialist species groups.

Its activities include surveys, mapping, data analysis, datasearch, support for the recording community, etc.
