Background of Organisation
The Forest of Dean District Council (‘the council’) is the local authority for the administrative area of the Forest of Dean, which comprises of 52,577 hectares within Gloucestershire, situated between the River Severn in the east and south and the River Wye in the west. Organisational Objectives
The Council’s Vision is 'a self-confident, safe, healthy, prosperous community, caring for the well being of all its residents, its heritage and environment. The Council will achieve its vision by adopting the following strategic objectives.
· A thriving local economy;
· More affordable homes;
· A protected and sustainable environment;
· A self-confident and safe community
· A healthy and inclusive community.
To deliver these objectives successfully the Council needs to be forward looking and flexible. Economic, environmental and community regeneration is at the heart of this vision, and the use of technology is seen as fundamental to achieving it. Relevant Policies, Projects & ActivitiesFour Overview & Scrutiny Committees are appointed to deal with specific decision making themes. These are :
- Environment Overview and Scrutiny Committee- The provision, planning and management of the natural and built environment
- Economy Overview and Scrutiny Committee-The economic, environment and economic regeneration of the Forest of Dean district.
- Social Well Being Overview and Scrutiny Committee-Policies and strategies of the council and other bodies which affect the social and political resources available to individuals
- Co-ordinating Overview and Scrutiny Committee-To allocate tasks between overview and scrutiny committees where there is an overlap of interest
