Background of Organisation

National Tourist Board. The Wales Tourist Board is responsible for the strategic development and marketing of tourism in Wales. It receives funding from the Welsh Assembly Government and is answerable to the Minister for Economic Development.

Organisational Objectives

The WTB mission is to improve the economic and social prosperity of Wales through the effective marketing and development of tourism. All activity concentrates on improving the quality of the visitor's experience in Wales - through strategic investment in raising the quality of the product on offer and through investment in the promotion of the Wales brand.

Relevant Policies, Projects & Activities

The Wales Tourist Board chairs and co-ordinates the Green Sea Partnership. This is a partnership of over 40 bodies committed to safeguarding and enhancing the coastal environment of Wales. Since the launch of the partnership in May 1996 it has achieved considerable progress in increasing the number of Blue Flag award beaches from 2 in 1995, to 33 in 2003. A Green Coast Award has been introduced to recognise and protect naturally unspoilt rural beaches that meet guideline water quality.
