Consultations around the Severn Estuary

The following consultations have recently, or are currently taking place around the estuary. The consultations on our page represent a selection of those currently relevant to the Severn Estuary, which we have selected as we feel they are of most interest to our readers.

Environment Agency Water Framework Directive (WFD) Consultation

The Environment Agency Water Framework Directive (WFD) Consultation on the Severn River basin district titled ‘Water for life and livelihoods: Challenges and choices' closed in December 2013. This consultation comprised of a national Challenges and Choices consultation document for England and one for each river basin district. Alongside each river basin district consultation there was also a strategic environmental assessment scoping document. To view the documents for this closed consultation click here. Summary statistics are provided in the ‘England's waters: Challenges and choices’ document. The RBMP has now been updated and further information about river basin districts, catchments, water bodies and the river basin management planning process can be found on the Environment Agency website, with new six month consultations begun in October 2014. The final plan to be published in December 2015.

Consolidation of the Environmental Permitting (England and Wales) Regulations

Defra and the Welsh Government are seeking views on the accuracy of the draft Environmental Permitting (England and Wales) Regulations 2016.

Defra and the Welsh Government are legally obliged to consult and want to be sure that no errors have occurred as part of the drafting process. These regulations will reflect the up-to-date legal position, bringing together all the amendments to the 2010 regulations. Defra and the Welsh Government are aiming to bring them into force on 1 January 2017.

Draft Plans to Improve Air Quality to Meet Limit Values for Nitrogen Dioxide (NO2) (Wales)

The European Union (EU) Ambient Air Quality Directive sets limits for major air pollutants. One of these is nitrogen dioxide (NO2). Welsh Government have made improvements in air quality, but there are still some areas where more action is needed to meet these limits. New new draft air quality plans have been produced for these areas to show how we intend to meet these limits.

Shared Purpose: Shared Future: Draft Statutory Guidance for the Well-being of Future Generations (Wales) Act 2015

Welsh Government want your views on the guidance that will be used to explain how the Well-being of Future Generations (Wales) Act 2015 will affect public bodies subject to its provisions.

The Well-being of Future Generations (Wales) Act is about improving the social, economic, environmental and cultural well-being of Wales, now and in the future.

The main purpose of the guidance is to help public bodies to respond positively to the duties and powers they now have under the Act. There will be four specific consultation events for public bodies affected by the Act (morning session) on the following dates:

  • 22 October, Swansea, Waterfront Museum
  • 23 October, Cardiff, SWALEC Stadium
  • 28 October, Newtown, Elephant and Castle Hotel
  • 4 November, Llandudno, Venue Cymru

There will be consultation events for other stakeholders to participate in the afternoon.

Review of the Water Resources (Control of Pollution) (Silage, Slurry and Agricultural Fuel Oil) (Wales) Regulations 2010

A consultation to consider whether changes to the Regulations would be beneficial for the practical and efficient use, and management, of slurry and silage.

Proposed Changes to Planning Policy Wales Chapter 10 and Technical Advice Note 4: Retail Centre Development

Chapter 10 of Planning Policy Wales (PPW) and Technical Advice Note 4 (TAN4) sets out the Welsh Government’s current national planning policies for retail development and retail centres.

The aim of the review is to update PPW Chapter 10 and TAN4 so that it is in line with a Welsh Government objective to enhance the vitality, attractiveness and viability of established centres.

The purpose of this consultation is to seek the views of interested parties on the Public Sector Waste and Resource Efficiency Plan.
